Steph Lunn and Mack Bishop from AgXtra’s Jamestown Office, recently visited the agricultural classes at Jamestown Community School. They engaged with both the year 9/10 and 11/12 students and talked about AgXtra’s contributions to the ongoing sustainability of the Australian agricultural industry. During the visit, they emphasised the pivotal role of Applied Agricultural field research in driving innovation and sustainability and created awareness and advocated for all careers in agriculture.
During their visit, Steph Lunn awarded certificates to “The Cereal Killers”, who took out the mid North award for the 2023 Crop Competition. This competition offers participants hands-on experience in making real farming decisions within a controlled environment. Teams are tasked with selecting the variety of wheat, sowing rate, fertiliser for sowing, and pre-emergent herbicide, all while being provided with vital information such as paddock location, history, and soil test results.
This recognition not only applauds the students’ talent and diligence but also highlights the significance of innovative farming practices in attaining economic success in agriculture.
The AgXtra Crop Competition stands as a testament to the company’s commitment to fostering innovation and sustainability in agriculture. By encouraging students to think outside the box regarding crop design and management, AgXtra plays a crucial role in nurturing the next generation of agricultural leaders dedicated to sustainable practices.
Looking ahead, AgXtra is dedicated to furthering its impact on the development of the next generation of Australian agriculture, with plans to expand the crop competition to include more schools in 2024.
